"As anthropologists, we use our rapport building skills, and deep respect for other cultural traditions and norms, to guide us naturally through the creation of Chi Chi Amor, a business that is just, cooperative, unique and green," says Danielle O'Connor who owns the company with Shari Feldman. Chi Chi Amor, adds O'Connor, is "a labor of love, respect, happiness, and hopefully a clear path to better global understanding for children and their parents."

Finding creative inspiration in the markets of Guatemala, the designers work with artisans there to fashion apparel and one-of-a-kind accessories from re-purposed "huipils." (A huipil is a shirt worn and hand-woven by indigenous Mayan women.)

For Spring 2009, the duo are introducing the accessories of Tampa-based P$ynner, who is also influenced by the unique color palette and fine hand-work in Guatemala.

For Spring 2009, Danielle says, "We are sticking with comfort, charisma, sweetness, long-wearability, and the endless possibilities our designs provide for layering." The palettes fall into three categories: Pastel, bright and earth tones, depending on the particular mix of huipils.

Perfect for a day at the market, or for any casual outing, are the playfully frilled looped cotton Asher Skirts and organic cotton shirts with huipil patches.
