RETAILERS' TOP PICKS BY TINA BARRY

"Top Picks" for Winter 2008 Baby: Today's Heirlooms - Part II

Since 1984 when Roberta and Russ Salton launched BABY BEAU AND BELLE, customers have counted on the team for exquisite christening and specialty infantwear. "We design our collections to be versatile and each can be used for special occasions such as birthdays, weddings and Christening as well as everyday wear. Additional items are available in each collection such as receiving blankets, bibs, after-Christening wear and newborn layette gowns. We use only the finest fabrics and sew each piece by hand in the Seattle area to ensure our standard of heirloom quality," says Roberta Salton.

The Kristina silk Christening gown (retails for $229, fits 3-6 months and 9-12 months) is a favorite of Baby Beau and Belle's clients. The bodice of this full-length dupioni silk gown has a beautiful re-embroidered ivory and champagne lace overlay with handmade satin and chiffon roses at the collar. The set includes a matching lace bonnet and booties. Understated, simply embellished designs are popular right now in the special occasion market.

You can see why Baby Beau and Belle customers are charmed by the Harrison. The white textured jumpsuit is trimmed with ivory Venice lace and sports shell buttons. The pale blue sweater and simple jockey hat finish the set. The pieces possess a delicate feeling, yet they're unmistakably boy. (Retail price is $199, fits five sizes NB to 12 months.)

Visions of sugarplums will dance in parents' heads when they see their baby in this pink and white confection. The Hannah features a textured cotton jumpsuit embellished with Venice lace, silk ribbon and a floral garland with tiny pearls and shell buttons. The set includes a pair of matching booties, a rose-colored knit sweater and matching knit bonnet. (Retail price is $199, fits NB to 12 months.)
