IGLOOPLAY BY LISA ALBIN

Homebase: Brooklyn, NY

DESIGNER: Lisa Albin

Part wriggly Jetson shapes, part cool modernist, Albin crafts a collection that's eco-friendly, cleanly contemporary and fun.

Outstanding offering: The Craftwork table and chair. The simple, attractive design comes in lime green or birch, and the chair and table is available in two heights: 12" seat for ages three to six, and 14" seat for ages six to nine.

NURSERYWORKS

Homebase: Los Angeles, CA

DESIGNERS: Traci Fleming and Kaye Popofsky Kramer

When I think of Hollywood chic I think Nurseryworks, a collection of high end, ultra-modern kids furniture. The designers surprised me this time with a towering, luxuriously padded headboard in a choice of buttery soft velvet, microsuede or twill.

Outstanding offering: The Vale Headboard adds a sumptuous touch to a modern room.

SPOT ON SQUARE

Homebase: Omaha, NE

DESIGNER: Nicole Springer

"We feel that children should be surrounded by simple, eco-conscious, quality products that promote an appreciation for design."

All the Springer's products employ VOC non-toxic paints and MDF, which is made of recycled/reclaimed materials. Among the surfaces they offer is bamboo, a sustainable hardwood alternative.

Outstanding offering: While clean and modern, the couple's Hiya series appear softer than some contemporary kids' furniture - thanks to rounded furniture legs, curved drawer openings and bedrails. Shown above: the Toddler Bed.

HIGH CHAIRS

SVAN OF SWEDEN

Homebase: Nacka, Sweden

DESIGNERS: Kjell Hagstrom and Fredrik Almanden

The clean lines and practicality one expects from Swedish design.

Outstanding offering: After it serves its original function as an adjustable, attractive high chair, the Svan Chair can be pulled up to the table and used for that in-between time when a feeding tray is no longer necessary and a regular chair is too low. In other words: forget the phone book/pillow for reaching the tabletop.
