RN: October 3, 2008 Editor's Note: Our Reporter's Notebook column is a regular feature to keep retailers and buyers up to date with our sponsors' news.
Opening Doors:
Tia Cibani, the designer and owner of the luxury children's wear brand KICOKIDS, has opened her first retail outlet. The space, created in collaboration with the Swedish design firm Our Children's Gorilla, is located in New York's hippest neighborhood, Chelsea, and is housed in the locale's coolest venue: Chelsea Market (75 9th Avenue and 16th St.; 212 675-KICO). While parents shop Cibani's chic collection, kids can peruse wooden monkey silhouettes swinging from the ceiling, wooden swans coolly surveying the scene, and a tent that doubles as a dressing room made of recycled kicokids wear. There's even an interactive children's art gallery. Visit kicokids.com for more information.
Not long ago, retailers opened a brick-and-mortar shop and, as an added bonus, created an online website for their wares. Things are changing. In 2005, Nina and Tom Gatewood launched NINA AND TOM FAMILY FASHION, their mostly organic collection of T-shirts, at ninaandtom.com. This summer, the couple opened their first Nina and Tom retail shop, in their home town of Davis, CA. The 400-square foot, bi-level space is as eco-conscious as their clothing: the floors are bamboo, the paints are nontoxic and the light is low-wattage. If you're in Davis, check out the Gatewood's new digs at 129 E Street, Suite B-1. Call 530-753-7008, visit ninaandtom.com.
Website Re-Launches: DAGMAR DALEY'S eponymous collection of modern, yet retro girls' and boys' wear can now be ordered for Spring '09 at her new wholesale website reached through dagmardaley.com. The site is easy to navigate and allows close up viewing of each garment in all color options. A page that shows how the pieces mix and match is a great visual tool for merchandising the line.
