in 2011 with new Southeast sales reps, Patricia and Larry
Cohen.
Susu & John bonnets and hats,
as well as coordinating diaper covers and new clothing,
are currently featured in 45 high-end Southeastern
boutiques and gift stores since entering the market in
Fall 2009.
"With the Cohens' destination
showrooms and focus on areas where we've not had as much
exposure, like Virginia, D.C. and Florida, our brand
stands to gain deeper market penetration and zero in on
retailers who appreciate our timeless style," said Susu
& John President Janie McQueen.
The Cohens, based in Lancaster,
S.C., have permanent showrooms at Atlanta ApparelsMart
Children's World and Charlotte's Children's Market and
are well established in the children's wholesale apparel
world repping traditional luxury lines such as Feltman
Bros. and Carriage Boutique as well as more modern
layette collections, such as Mooncakes.
Susu & John's signature piece
is the Beaufort Button Bonnet, which is based on an
heirloom pattern and updated with modern designer fabrics
alongside traditional ginghams and solids.
"The baby bonnet is iconic in the
South, yet not much has been done with a bonnet as a
practical, wearable item that is also adorable," McQueen
said. The Beaufort Button Bucket hat, created to
complement the bonnet and made for boys and girls, offers
a unique buttons-all-'round feature to adapt for sun and
style and sells as well as the bonnets, she
noted.
The brand is becoming well-known as
a handmade heirloom quality item that is highly
monogrammable and washable, a boon to new parents who
seek practicality and personalized flair. "The Cohens are
very visible in the gift market as well, which dovetails
perfectly with Susu & John's popularity as a baby
gift," McQueen said.
Susu & John's new team
collection, with team colors in gingham that can be
monogrammed with contrasting team colors, is expected to
be a brisk seller in the showrooms for Fall 2011. Susu
& John's Spring and Fall 2011 collections are
available starting with the Atlanta International Gift
Show on January 12-19, 2011.
